The danger of constantly staring at a screen is not brain rot but more like lack of variety in thinking and experiences due to all the things we're not doing because screens eat up all of our time.

That seems like a good way to think about it. Variety, or what sometimes is called, plurality, is an important dimension to social and educational work.
